Shannon Hamann (1966-2004) received an MFA from the University of Iowa’s Writer’s Workshop. Individual poems appeared in the New York Quarterly, The Massachusettes Review, The Gettysburg Review, The Colorado Review, Zyzzyva, and many others. Recognition of his work included a fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts, a John Steinbeck Fellows Grant, a travel grant to Japan from the NEA, and posthumously the Transcontinental Poetry Award. The latter led to the publication of a collection of his poetry, Deathdoubledactyl. Shannon’s poet friends  described him as a poet’s poet.
